LET'S FINISH WITH ...

1ST.- It is impossible to teach you all the possible expressions we can use in a class in just a bunch of months...I will hand you some sheets in our meeting where you  will have examples of differerent class situations and suitable sentence for them....

2nd.- Another IMPOSSIBLE goal to get in this type of courses is to teach you how to use a CLIL methodology...but at least I have made you think about it...
In the link you will find below you have an interesting book "CLIL4U" published in the internet where you will have all the theory about it.  "Something to do this summer" . I will also leave a long video regarding a lecture on CLIL .

Click HERE to read the book
Click HERE to see the video.

3rd.- And finally I have looked for some examples of CLIL classes in different subjects, SORRY BUT I COULDN'T FIND VIDEOS ABOUT SOME OF THE SUBJECTS YOU TEACH:

GEOGRAPHY CLASS
MATHS CLASS
BIOLOGY CLASS
HISTORY
EXAMPLES IN PRIMARY AND VOCATIONAL STUDIES

VOWELS!!

Vowels may create problems of communication as well if we do not pronounce them as close as possible to the sound they represent.
Forget about the letters. Remember we talk about SOUNDS...ok?
There are 2 ways of pronouncing the letter "i" or "u" or "o", there is a sound that is not a sound... and it could be represented by any letter!! the letter "a" has three different possibilities, and "e" is the least complicated.
I am leaving you here the video we saw together and below you will find links to see what combinations of letters correspond to each sound:

Click HERE to see the videos

And here you have the links to the way you can find these sounds in a word:

PHONETICS 4

Let's finish with the consonants:

The letter "th" has got two different pronunciations:

 &

it is the typical sound , the sound you'll make  in "z"in the word "zueco", words like: "think, bath, Thursday...." It is the normal sound
it is the same sound but you vowel cords have to vibrate. It is not so common, we do  not have it in Spanish but it appears in words that are very  common such as:
"the, this, that, these, those, father, brother, mother, other, weather..." It is important not to make this sound as the Spanish "d"
Have  a look at the videos.

 :

The last important sound to improve is:
this sound corresponds to the letter "y" and it is a semiconsonant because it has the form of a consonant but it has to be pronounced as the vowel "i", it is the "i" we do in the word "hielo". Here is the video

COLLABORATION IN CLIL

After analysing all the examples of CLIL units in our last meeting, here you have another test or exemplification of how colaboration among teachers and coordinator should be. It is a presentation where you have on the first column on the  left, the least adequate way of making collaboration among us and on  the last column, what it would be ideal to have... I just expect you to make some reflection on this (I have done a lot) and see how we can improve our collaboration (for those who are nowadays teaching in a bilingual program and for those who will do it in the future, of course). Some ideas are really interesting.

AVATAR'S SENTENCES

Look what I have found in this newspaper...it is the answer to those strange sounds the avatar was doing.....

PHONETICS 3

&  These are two very important sounds that can really create a difference in your pronuntiation. In Spanish they are interdental (colocamos la punta de la lengua entre nuestros dientes para pronunciarlas), however they are alveolar in English (colocamos la punta de la lengua detrás de los dientes de arriba, truco , aprieta fuerte tus dientes y no dejes que tu lengua salga entre los mismos) Have a look at the video

Sound symbol This  sound is mainly the sound of "ch "  or "tch" and the ending "-ture" in writing in English, HERE you can click and see some written  examples

Sound symbol This  sound is mainly the sound of "j "  or "g" and the ending in writing in English,  you can click   HERE and see some written  examples

Now, look at the video and practice the sounds:

Sound symbol  this sound makes a difference in English. NEVER PRONOUNCE IT AS "B". It is closer to "f". Look at the video and you will see what I mean:
NOW PRACTICE THESE SOUNDS AND OTHERS IN THE FOLLOWING LINK:

How CLIL are you ?

In this presentation you have a quiz in order to know how clil you are, i.e., if you use CLIL methodology in  your classes or not....of course do not feel panic if your score is too low, and of course it depends on the subject, but it gives us ideas of  WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO... but some are quite irrealistic... So, check it out!!

PHONETICS 2

First , let's have a look at some sounds which may vary in pronunciation in Spanish but they won't cause any problem in case you mispronouce them regarding a perfect British pronunciation

These sounds are :
the only difference with our language is that it may appear with double mm, at the end of the word (mum) or with -mb at the end , in which case it is only pronounced as m (climb) /klaɪm/
the only difference with our language is that it may appear with double mm, at the end of the word

the pronunciation it is as in Spanish but you can find it with spellings like "c" in the word: "city"

this sound is the"s" but "sonora " that means, (nuestras cuerdas vocales tienen que vibrar al hacerla). Good news, if we do not make it perfect, it does not cause problems in understanding. Very difficult for Spanish people!!

Here you have a video to understand the differecte between these two last sounds:

Click HERE to see the possibilities in writing

OK , LET'S START WITH THOSE SOUNDS YOU REALLY HAVE TO DO WELL.

Regarding /m/ and /n/ there is a third nasal sound which we do not have in Spanish:

If you pronunce "canguro" and stop in the "n" when saying it , and now you pronounce "nose" and stop in the "n",can you see the difference!!
It is very important because it is the pronunciation of the ending -ing, NEVER MAKE A -G SOUND AT THE END. Look at the video:

Look at the spelling, very easy = it is always the end and in combination: "n+g" or "n+k"
Click HERE
These sound is mainly the sound of "sh "  and the syllable "-tion" in English, look at the way you have to pronounce it.

This is the way you find it in writing: Click HERE . Pay attention to words like "sugar", you are probably surprised, aren't you?

Sound symbol not very common, it comes from French... not very used so good news. But it is the pronunciation of the syllable -sion, which it is quite common, though

Click HERE  to see examples

NOW, just for fun, challenge yourself with a tongue twister, to practice   and

CLASSROOM LANGUAGE 2

This time we are going to go over classroom language but in the way a native speaker would say it...does this mean that if we say it in a different way it means we are wrong? Of course not, but this is the way it is for them. You will see first the asnwers, then click on PROCEED The idea is to drag and drop the correct sentence it its correct bin.

WHAT IS CLIL??

This is a video in Spanish to introduce you this topic. The first thing you will discover is that there in not a CLIL (AICLE en español) methodology, it is based on the principles you will see in this video. The second video of this series is about TICs that you can use.... I think this is not the purpose of this course.. but if you want to, I can introduce you some good TICs to use with your students (padlet is a good one!)
The second video is shorter than this one but it is probably more clear...

LET'S START WITH PHONETICS!!!

Do you know what phonetics is??? It is a code invented to make us easier to pronounce in a clear way. You do not have to speak without an accent but as you probably know, if you do not speak clearly enough, an anglo speaker will not undestand you....and this is not because they are bad people!! They speak in a way and write in another...and they won't understand you if you do not pronounce a "similar" sound....

First, do not confound phoneme with letter:
the sound /K/ is in "Coat", "Kitchen", "character", quick

You will see one video for each sound  ...then you will see their correspondence in writing. With the most difficult sounds I will send you exercises. The idea is to listen and repeat with the videos and then pronounce aloud the examples you will see in writing!!
Once we have seen all the sounds I will listen to you as you will record some sentences for me!!!! Easy Peasy!!

/p/, /b/
With these sounds, the biggest problem is when they appear in a final position,. Practice with the /p/

For the /b/ sound click here

/k/

To see the /k/  written possibilities click here

/g/ , be careful with this sound, specially at the end of the word!!!!
To see the /g/ written possibities click here

LET'S GET STARTED!!!
Great, I loved all your suggestions! I'll try to do my best!
We are going to work on class vocabulary this week: ready?
The idea is to see this presentation and take notes of how would you say these everyday expressions in your class. We are starting with "Smalll talk": how to break ice in class, and "Opening a subject"
I will first ask you in Spanish, you write down your solutions on a notebook and then I will give you the answers next week. "Easy peasy" and do not "cheat" using a dictionary or tranlslator....
Just have a look at the presentation and click on your top right to see each slide:

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT??
Welcome to our blog... the first activity will consist of telling everybody what aspects you expect to improve according to English as a language to be used in your class. Tell us if you have already taught your subject in English and if you have, what were the most challenging aspects for you...

We will do it through a Padlet... You will receive an invitation and you will just have to make a click  anywhere on the wall, and write!!
